Floating Action Live at The Mule

November 14 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

One of Asheville’s best-kept musical secrets is coming to The Mule

Floating Action is the Black Mountain project Seth Kauffman started in 2005, after his Motown-soaked group The Choosy Beggars called it quits. Seth writes the songs, writes the lyrics, plays nearly every instrument, and records and produces it all himself. The result is homemade psychedelic pop with a lot of heart: warm, strange, and crafted by someone who cares more about getting the song right than getting famous.

That devotion hasn’t gone unnoticed. Jim James of My Morning Jacket has called him “the most underrated person in music.” Seth has lent his guitar, bass, and drums to records by Lana Del Rey, Angel Olsen, Ray LaMontagne, and Jim James, and the Asheville scene has long considered him one of its own. Floating Action has played South by Southwest and the Hangout Music Festival, and on November 14 he’s playing our taproom.

The name says plenty about him: it comes from an out-of-date Gretsch kick-drum pedal. It’s a small, scrappy piece of gear that became the name of a band worth knowing.

Come early, grab a seat, and spend a Saturday afternoon with one of the area’s great underrated songwriters.

FREE. All ages welcome.
